California’s policy makers are once again considering joining 39 other states that have eliminated the auto-resource barrier for participants in the California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) program. Though this issue has been debated in our state’s capitol for several years, there is great hope that, this year, lawmakers will understand the urgent need to better use the scarce resources to leverage increased work participation rates and, ultimately, achieve a higher percentage of CalWORKs participants transitioning to economic independence.
