COVID UPDATE: Letter to USDA requesting expansion of SNAP Restaurant Meals Program

Western Center has worked with local and statewide partners for over a decade to expand the Restaurant Meal Program (RMP) option for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients, and was proud to sponsor legislation over the past four years that broadly expanded the reach of the program to serve people who need it most: SNAP recipients who are elderly, disabled or homeless.

Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic Public Health Emergency, we stand with the California Department of Social Services in their request to expand RMP to all SNAP recipient populations, and with our national allies to achieve federal flexibility to expedite the expansion of the program to serve more people during the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency and the following months, in which public health experts estimate we will see ongoing stay-at-home orders until a COVID-19 immunity is widespread.
