WCLP 2023 Garden Party Sponsorship Deck
On October 11th, over 300 guests in person at the Wilshire Ebell (and hundreds more online) gathered together for a joyful, multiracial event, emceed by Michael Tubbs celebrating Western Center’s 55th anniversary of building a more just California. From inspiring speeches, moderated conversations, and moments to network, connect, and dance – Garden Party 2022 was not only a celebration, but a reminder of the power and beauty of breaking bread, communing, and building power to advance racial and economic justice.
The event recognized Western Center’s Garden Party 2022 Honorees:
Event Emcee Michael Tubbs opened the evening acknowledging the pain and harm caused by Los Angeles City Leaders by lifting up the work led by Western Center for racial and economic justice.
“What makes this day – and this night – and this organization so special, is that we have a clear as day example that the work of the Western Center on Law and Poverty – in terms of being anti-racist, anti-classist, and anti- white supremacist, is needed today more than ever.”
Western Center Executive Director Crystal Crawford honored the “double nickels” milestone in Western Center’s history by centering WCLP’s staff and others on the frontlines of social change and encouraging our village to take its support for WCLP’s work to higher heights.
“We are social justice and racial justice warriors. Our staff fights hard on behalf of oppressed people every day. It is our privilege and our duty to fight. We know that poverty is a policy choice – and people who want to see you win, will help you win. And you are all here helping us win.”
